The 11-year old All-Star Indians competed in the Dizzy Dean State Tournament in Oxford. The Indians were the defending champs as they won the 10-year old state title last summer, but defending their title was a difficult task this summer.

The Indians defeated South AM 18-16 in their first game, but they fell 14-3 to Oxford in their second game.

The loss to Oxford put the Indians in the losers bracket and pitted them against Saltillo on Saturday.

Saltillo jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Indians answered with a run in the bottom of the inning on a Russell Bunch RBI single.

Saltillo extended their lead to 6-1 in the second inning, but the Indians began to chip away in the bottom of the third on another RBI single by Bunch.

Drew Hill hit a two run scoring double in the fourth inning, but the Indians trailed 7-4. The Indians cut the lead down to two in the bottom of the fifth when Dakota Black reached on an error that allowed Thomas Cox to score from third.

The Indians had pulled within striking distance, but Saltillo plated two runs in the top of the sixth to take a 9-5 lead into the bottom of the sixth.

The Indians were down to their final three outs, but Jake Smith and Braxton Carroll got on base to try and start a rally. However, it was too late and the Indians fell 9-5 to be eliminated from the state tournament.

The Indians were unable to defend their title from last summer, but they gave it their all in every game.
