Shannon drew first blood with a RBI single in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Indians answered in the bottom of the inning with Nathan Moore reaching on error that allowed Austin Shumpert to score. Moore later scored on a passed ball to give the Indians a 2-1 lead.
Shannon tied the game in the top of the third on a passed ball, but the Indians answered again in the bottom of the inning. In the bottom of the third, the Indians had only one hit, but they plated two runs thanks to three Shannon errors. Maikhail Miller drew a on out walk followed by Shante Rogers reaching on an error. Ryan Reese and Tyler Thomas reached on back-to-back errors that allowed Jimmy Ruff, who was running for Miller, and Rogers to score and give the Indians a 4-2 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Indians added an insurance run on a RBI single by Miller. Leading 5-2 going into the fifth and final inning, the Indians got one quick out on a strike out.
Shannon hit a single to left to try and start a rally, and the next batter hit a single off field umpire Stevie Martinez's leg.
The next Shannon batter hit a game tieing three run home run. The Indians managed to get two outs and keep the game tied so their bats could try to win it in the bottom of the inning.
Thomas led off the inning with a single to right. During Cody Hardin's at bat, Thomas stole second and then Hardin laid down a sacrifice bunt that moved Thomas to third.
Shumpert came up with the chance to be the hero, but never got the chance to get a good swing on the ball, as the pitcher threw a wild pitch that allowed Thomas to score and give the Indians the 6-5 win.
The Indians are scheduled to play at Tupelo Thursday night. First pitch is at 5 p.m.
