Dear Editor:

I want to take this opportunity to compliment The Holley Family for a very enjoyable and memorable afternoon at the Farm. I took my granddaughters and a couple of their friends. It was a feast for the eyes and a happy feeling place. All the pumpkins, mums, and fall decorations were displayed outside.

The old chicken house was just as good if not better than the outside. The country store was full of all kinds of good tasting items with samples available. There were ripe cantaloupes, jars of salsa, Corn Cobb Jelly and many other varieties.

The girls were a little more interested in the T-shirts and what knots, while the younger ones like the toys and decorations. The lye soap was really there, too.

We all enjoyed the wagon ride and the history lesson that told us so much about our home county, and what was there long before any of us. Mark Holley did an excellent job of tour guide and historian.

When we arrived back at the farm, the kids all went to the corn maze while I went to get a cold drink and chat. Folks were sitting around talking, kids were playing and going from one thing to another, enjoying themselves.

I saw several familiar faces and met some new ones. It was such a pleasant atmosphere. When the kids finished the corn maze, they were hungry. We had a choice of barbecues, hamburgers, hot dogs and several more things. I think we all tried different things then tasted each other's. Every bite was delicious and we ended up taking some home for the ones who didn't join us.

We looked at everything displayed inside then saw the pigs and chickens, along with giving a quick pat to the pony.

I am really proud for Itawamba County to have this attraction. You can tell a great deal of hard work went into it and months of canning and planning. So often we have to go outside of our county to get the opportunity to do and see this type of thing. It is not just for the young, anyone would enjoy the ride, the food and the history, in addition to meeting and making new friends.

I would highly recommend anyone who has a couple of hours to take advantage of all they have to offer. It is an opportunity to entertain our kids without driving 30 miles and spending money in another county.

Don't worry if you don't have any kids to take because the food is good enough to go for. I hope they do very well and don't stop with just this year. I admire their forethought and ingenuity.

Respectfully,

Jan White
