On the opening drive of the game, the Cougars ran 10 plays that ended with a 2-yard touchdown run to give them an early 7-0 lead.
The Mustang offense ran two plays before fumbling on third down, and the Cougars recovered to gain possession.
The Mustang defense forced the Cougars to go three and out on the ensuing drive, but the offense went three and out as well.
After the Mustang punt, the Cougars put together a nine play drive that was capped off with a 6-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter.
The Mustangs put together and good drive during the second quarter, but it came to a screeching halt with an interception on the 2 yard line.
On the ensuing drive, the Cougars moved the ball down to the 42 yard line on eight plays. On the ninth play of the drive, the Cougars found the endzone again on a 42-yard touchdown pass to give them a 21-0 lead at halftime.
The third quarter was scoreless, but the Cougars found the endzone quickly in the fourth on a 1-yard touchdown run.
The Mustangs trailed 28-0 when Dalton McMillen and Matthew Driskill hooked up for two big passing plays that ended on a 15-yard touchdown pass. Zach Westmoreland hit the extra point and the Mustangs were on the board but still trailed 28-7.
The Mustangs were unable to find the endzone again and the Cougars picked up the 28-7 victory.
On Friday night, the Mustangs will travel to Hatley to start division play against the Tigers. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
