TUPELO – Owen Wilburn, 95, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a brief illness.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Minister Chad Ramsey officiating. Burial was in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his daughters, Martha Morris of Gulfport, and Nan Brown and husband, Ray, of Saltillo; two grandchildren, Angela Fountain of Memphis, and Joel Brown and wife, Tina, of Brandon; five great-grandchildren, Ashley, Lee, Lauren, Courtney and Collin; a great-great-grandson, Franklin; three sisters, Ruth Donald and Catherine Witt of the Peaceful Valley community, and Dorothy Leslie and husband, Carroll, of the Richmond community; two brothers, “Did” Wilburn of the Peaceful Valley community and Junior Wilburn and wife, Delores, of Dorsey; and his caregiver, Freddie Morris of Tupelo.

Vicki Robinson
FULTON – Vicki Lynn Robinson, 51, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, in Fulton as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born May 5, 1958, to Robert and Evelyn Dickens Sheffield. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She had worked at Blue Bell Manufacturing and River Oaks and was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her dog, Boomer.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jackie Gray and Bro. Grady Davidson officiating. Burial was in the Sandy Springs Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Donnie Robinson; one son, Dustin Robinson (Karla); one daughter, Meagan Senter (Josh), all of Fulton; one sister, Becky Waddle (Danny) of Marietta; and two grandchildren, Maddie Robinson and Jade Senter.
She was preceded in death by one baby brother and her parents.
Pallbearers were Johnny Poppelreiter, Kelvin Watson, Mike Gough, Justin Sheffield, Heath Johnson and Doyle Johnson.

Olan Hargett
HAMILTON, Ala. – James Olan Hargett, 71, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born March 29, 1938, in Alabama to Ross Lavaun and Thelma Stone Hargett. He worked in quality control at Mueller Brass. He was a born-again believer. He was a member of the NRA and an avid outdoorsman.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Jimmy Lucas officiating. Burial was in Providence Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Kitchen of Bowling Green, Ky.; one son, Jamie Hargett of Biloxi; two grandsons, Michael Keith Hargett (Marcia) and Michael James Kitchen; one great-grandson, Braydon Frank Hargett; six stepsons, Terral Brock (Sandy) of Ripley, David Godwin (Kim) of New Albany, Joe Godwin (Jeanie) of Dorsey, Todd Grady of Tremont, Tony Gray (Lynn) of Golden and Mike Hood (Tammie) of Smithville; the mother of Tony, Todd and Mike, Carolyn Grady Hargett of Tremont; stepgrandchildren, Jake, River, Tristan, Blake, Brannon, Kara, Kirby, Jeffery, Alan (Jessica), James Michael (Laura), Amanda and Lee; stepgreat-grandchildren, Caleb, Haydan, Lizzy, Samatha and Magan; one brother, Ross Hargett of Battle Creek, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Hargett.

Barbara Thrasher
MANTACHIE – Barbara Nell Thrasher, 52, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A native of Clarksdale, she was born Aug. 13, 1957, to Jimmy Lee and Bobby Nell Pettit Boling. She had been a resident of Mantachie for the past 20 years. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed camping and fishing, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Roland Dempsy officiating. Burial was in Fellowship Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Roger Thrasher of Mantachie; two daughters, Barbara Smith (Ronald) and Sherry Davidson, all of Mantachie; one brother, Johnny Boling of Mantachie; four grandchildren, Paytence Smith, Nicholas Smith, Alexis Smith and James Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Rubel Dale Thrasher; a sister, Iness Merchant; and a brother, Jimmy Boling, Jr.

MANTACHIE – Exie Hawkins Brown, 77, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, surrounded by her family. She was born Oct. 23, 1931, in Itawamba County to Willie Cliff and Allie Mae Franks Hawkins. She attended Mantachie Methodist Church and had worked at the Mantachie School Lunch Room for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking,, crocheting and gardening.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Ronnie Goodwin and Bro. Eugene Stockstill officiating. Burial was in the Stephens Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Dalton Dee Brown of Mantachie; one daughter, Margaret Hawkins (Dorman) of Mantachie; one son, Larry Dee Brown (Alice) of the Peaceful Valley community; one sister, Linda Ann Ensley (Jimmy) of Mantachie; two brothers, Denver Hawkins (Jackie) of Coldwater and Billy Hawkins (Betty) of Dorsey; three grandchildren, Nicole Hawkins Bowden, Amanda Brown Bridges (Jason) and Jesse Hawkins; two great-grandchildren, Morgan Bowden and Riley Bridges, all of Mantachie.

Martha A. Blake
TUPELO - Martha A. Blake, 55, died Thursday, September 10, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A Fulton native, she was born April 25, 1954 to Willie Marshall Rhyne and Mable Jean Tackett Rhyne. She attended Itawamba Junior College. She worked during her career at the Tupelo Manor Nursing Home where she received her Certified Nurses Aide Degree and the North Mississippi Medical Center before her illness forced her to retire. She was a member of Priceville Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing, loved her puppy, Buddy and her family.
Services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at Priceville Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Tutor and Rev. Ricky Pierce officiating. Burial was in Keyes Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors was in charge of the arrangements.

Bob Jackson
TUPELO – Robert D. "Bob" Jackson, 69, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. He was born July 4, 1940, to W.D. and Thelma Hollandsworth Jackson. He worked 27 years as a route salesman for Frito-Lay in Lee, Itawamba and Pontotoc Counties. He worked at Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs, Colo., for the past seven years. He was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church. He organized the first Mended Hearts Chapter in Colorado Springs and received an award for Outstanding Educator of the Year from Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs in 2008. He loved his family, grandchildren and friends.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Harrisburg Baptist Church with Dr. Forrest Sheffield and Bro. Jim Wismer officiating. Burial was in Tupelo Memorial Park. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mitzi Morris Jackson of Tupelo; one son, Robert D. "Rob" Jackson Jr. (Renee) of Colorado Springs; two grandchildren, Robert D. Jackson III. and Mary Morris Jackson, both of Colorado Springs; two brothers, Bill Jackson (Katie) and Ken Jackson, both of Pontotoc; a sister, Jessie Powers of Highland, Ill.; and a special aunt, Nellie Morrison of Pontotoc.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joe Jackson.

EGGVILLE – Jerry Wayne “J.W.” Smith, 67, died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009.
He donated his body to the University of Mississippi Medical School. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at his daughter’s home in the Eggville Community.

TUPELO – August Vernon Franklin Roe, 81, died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with his son-in-law, David Buchanan, officiating. Burial with graveside services was at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Kipp/Stover Cemetery in Stover, Mo.
Survivors include his eight children, Carolyn Roe of Tupelo, who was his primary caregiver, and Shirley Sheperd (Alan) of Eupora, Vernon Roe (Susan) of Cole Camp, Mo., Barbara Buchanan (David) of the Old Union community, Robert Roe (Lisa) of the Palmetto community, Norma Buse (Terry) of Guntown, Billie Nabors (Brad) of Fulton and Tony Roe of Mississippi State University and the home; 1l grandchildren, Buddy Alan Sheperd, Molly and Megan Roe, Kenneth and Johnathan Buchanan, Devin and Nikki Roe, Terry Buse II, Chance and Will Sheffield, and Will Nabors; a great-grandson, Eli Nabors; one brother, Melvin Roe of Cole Camp, Mo.; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
