FULTON - Zereda Jane Field, 78, died Monday, June 15, 2009, at the Care Center of Red Bay. She was born April 16, 1931, in Itawamba County to Newt and Hattie Merkel Grissom. She was a graduate of Itawamba Agricultural High School and attended Itawamba Junior College. She retired from Charm Step after many years of service. She was a member of the Harden's Chapel Methodist Church.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, at the Harden's Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Chris Higginbottom officiating. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her daughter, Reggie Higginbottom of Red Bay, Ala.; two grandsons, Chris Higginbottom (Ashley) of Golden and Jason Higginbottom (Jennifer) of Belmont; and three great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Chandler and Caylie Brooke Higginbottom.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Field, in 1987; her parents; two brothers, Bill Grissom and George Grissom; and her son-in-law, Johnny Higginbottom.
Pallbearers were her great-grandsons.
Jeff Potts
BLUE SPRINGS - Jeffrey "Jeff" Daniel Potts, 31, died Monday, June 15, 2009, at his residence. He was an automotive technician and a member of Sherman Baptist Church. An accomplished musician, he was a drummer for the band OCD. He was an excellent cook. He was a beloved son, brother, grandson and uncle.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, at United Funeral Service in New Albany with the Rev. Bud Wheatley officiating. Burial was in Flat Rock Cemetery in Blue Mountain.
Survivors include his wife, Regina Lynn Potts of Fulton; his mother and stepfather, Mary Elizabeth and Bill O'Callaghan of Blue Springs; his father and stepmother, Robert Glenn and Shelia Potts of Tupelo; three sisters: Angela Louise Whittaker of Peppertown, Mandy Webb of Tremont and Tonja Richardson of Blue Springs; his grandparents, Robert and Helen Potts of Tupelo, and Bobbie Nell O'Callaghan of Blue Springs; a special uncle, Jerry Potts of New Albany; and special cousins, Wes Potts, Amanda Potts, Melissa Childers and Crystal Gordon.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dan and Louise Burns, and B.M. O'Callaghan Jr.
Ronald Beene
FULTON - William Ronald Beene, 57, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, in Fulton. He was born Sept. 16, 1951, in Itawamba County to Verlon C. and Dewdrop Stovall Beene. He was employed at Wrangler Manufacturing for a number of years. He was a member of Friendship Methodist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Deaton officiating. Burial was in Friendship Methodist Cemetery.
Survivors include his fiancée, Francis Elrod of Fulton; one nephew, Ben Baggett of Mantachie; his aunts, Joyce Senter of Fulton and Vona Morgan; a brother-in-law, David Baggett of Mantachie; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Karen Regina Baggett.
Pallbearers were Dale Fikes, Jimmy Humphries, Adam Carroll, Ben Beene, David Beene and Tom Beene. Leburn Leathers was an honorary pallbearer.
James Heard
TUPELO - James Wilson Heard, 55, died Friday, June 12, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at Mt. Pisgah M.B. Church in Mantachie. Burial was in the church cemetery. N.L. Jones and Son Funeral Directors was in charge of the arrangements.
Mary R. Simmons
ZION, Ill. - Mary R. Simmons, 81, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at the Pavilion of Waukegan Nursing Home.
Visitation was held Friday, June 19, at Congdon Funeral Home in Zion. Interment was private.
Survivors include three daughters, Jackie Cooper of Franklin County, Ill., Linda Elliott of Caseyville, Ill., and Sharon Osterberg (Bruce) of Spring Grove, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Jimmie Nell Bates
MANTACHIE - Jimmie Nell Bates, 69, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at the Traceway Retirement Community. She was born June 2, 1940, in Mantachie to Oye L. Bates and Celesta Williams Bates. She was a member of the Harrisburg Baptist Church in Tupelo. She was an honor graduate of Mantachie High School and attended Northeast Junior College in Booneville. She received special medical training in Denver, Colo. She was a former employee of Savings Oil Co. and also worked in the medical profession for Dr. Thomas McDonald and Dr. Lawrence Brisco for many years before retiring from B&B Concrete in February 2008 after 19 years of service.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 19, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating. Burial was in the Keyes Cemetery.
Survivors include special cousins, Ruby Clayton, Syble Clayton, Sandra Newton, Mark and Madge Clayton, and N.T. Clayton; several relatives from the Bates and Williams families; and very special family friends, Preston Knight and family, Charles Provine and family, and Jerry and Mary Martin. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Marjorie Sue Bates.
Pallbearers were employees of B&B Concrete.
Barbara A. Witt
BELMONT - Barbara A. Witt, 58, died Saturday, June 20, 2009, at the Iuka Hospital.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 22, at Golden Central Baptist Church with Bro. Mickey Trammel officiating. Burial was in the Ridge Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home of Belmont was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Witt of Belmont; two daughters, Cindy Howie (Brad) of Iuka and Lori Vaughters (Mark) of Granger, Ind.; one son, Jason Witt (Katie) of Southaven; five grandchildren, Colten Howie, Calli Howie, Matthew Vaughters, Luke Vaughters and John Vaughters; three sisters, Wanda Mills of Red Bay, Ala., Nancy Riley of Fulton and Debbie Thompson of Pontotoc; and one brother, Robbie Butler of Fulton.

Judie Jamerson
FULTON - Judie Jamerson, 91, died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at The Meadows. She was born Aug. 6, 1917, in Itawamba County to Jessie Alvin and Mae Dulaney Senter. She was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, where she served in many areas of church work. She was a former employee of Itawamba Manufacturing. She always lent a helping hand to everyone.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Bro. Jackie Gray, Bro. Terry Paul Graham and Bro. Patrick Beard officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Senter Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Anna Lois Beard (Bobby) of Fulton; six grandchildren, Arlene Norton (Brien), Mark Beard (Allison), Patrick Beard (Lana), Brent Beard (Lindsey), Ross Jamerson (Amanda) and Carrie Jamerson; 12 great-grandchildren, Juliana and Delaney Norton, Marcus Beard, Morgan Beard, Anna Margret Beard, Joy and Lauren Beard, Kristin Beard, Emma Beard, Alex Beard, Case Jamerson, Tyler Dossett; daughter-in-law, Shirley Jamerson; two sisters, Dessie Johnson and Jessie Jamerson of Fulton; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.C. Jamerson; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Jamerson; son, Niles Jamerson; sister, Jewel Dulaney; and five brothers, Prentiss, Avis, Lawrence, Ray and Hershel Senter.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Mark Beard, Patrick Beard, Brent Beard, Ross Jamerson, Marcus Beard and Brien Norton.
Gladys Grimes
RED BAY, Ala. – Gladys West Grimes, 85, died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the Care Center of Red Bay.
Services were at 2 p.m. today at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Curtis Shelton, Bro. Marvis Bostick and Bro. Tim Winter officiating. Burial were be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Albert Grimes of Red Bay, Ala.; three daughters, Martha Kidd of Fulton, Patsy Savage (Tommy) of Mooreville and Cathy Fulton (Bro. Grady) of Natchez; two sons, Bro. Billy West (Kathy) of Eggville and Mike West of Fulton; two stepdaughters, Lynette Norris (Chester) of Fulton and Janice Johnson (Bro. Hal) of Smithville; two stepsons, David Grimes and Donal Grimes (Becky) of Red Bay; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren, 15 stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Opal Strickland (Calvin) of Memphis; one brother, Cecil Mitchell (Lorene) of Arkansas.
