The IAC Indians hosted the Houston Community Yankees last week for a junior high showdown.

The Yankees brought only seven players to the game, so the Indians spotted them a left fielder for defense only.

The game got off to a slow start, but the Yankees plated two runs in the top of the third on Indian mistakes.

An error with one out gave the Yankees a base runner, and they followed with a single to right to put runners at the corners.

Dylan Taylor was on the mound for the Indians; he was called for two balks in the innings. Both balk calls came with runners at third, so the Yankees took a 2-0 lead.

Despite the balks, Taylor struck out the side in the third.

In the bottom of the third, the Indians loaded the bases with two outs on a Lee Greenhaw walk and singles by Logan Brown and Taylor. However, the Indians were unable to get the big hit they needed and left the bases loaded.

The Indians loaded the bases again in the bottom of the fourth on Jacob Dill reaching on a fielder’s choice, Chandler Gilmore being hit by a pitch and Austin Prestage reaching on an error.

With the bases loaded and two outs, the Indians did not want a repeat of the inning before, but that is what they got as the scoring chance ended with an Indian strikeout.

The Yankees added a run to their lead in the top of the fifth on a RBI triple to right.

In the top of the sixth, the Yankees hit three consecutive singles that drove in two runs.

The Indians trailed 5-0 and were unable to mount a comeback in the bottom of the sixth.

The Yankees walked away with a 5-0 victory over the Indians.

The Indians will travel to Hatley Thursday night and then will take a week off before returning home to host Saltillo on June 11.
