David Sheffield

BALLARDSVILLE - David Anthony Sheffield, 44, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009, in Monroe County. He was born July 26, 1964, in Lee County. He had worked as an investigator for the Itawamba County Sheriff's Department and the Lee-Itawamba County Narcotics Unit, and he was a member of the Itawamba County Dive Team. He was an active board member of the Mississippi Bail Bond Association and the owner of Acor Bail Bonds. He was a Baptist and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed Scuba diver instruction, coaching Little League baseball, riding his Harley, fishing, dove hunting and playing his guitar.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 24, at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton. Bro. Gary O'Neal and Bro. Bill Payne will officiate, and Leon Hayes delivered the eulogy. Burial was in Keyes Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Sheffield of Ballardsville; four sons, Isaac, Cody, Kyle and Trae, all of the home; his mother, Evelyn Sheffield McDuffie of Ballardsville; one brother, Billy Sheffield of Ballardsville; and two sisters, Debbie Russell of Calhoun City and Melinda Halbert of Tuscaloosa, Ala. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy S. Sheffield Sr., and his stepfather, Joe Buntin.

Pallbearers were Chris Loden, Tad Tucker, Drew Bayer, Chris Wagster, Tim Kimbell, Russ Gordon, Tim Lewis and Tony Beam.

Honorary pallbearers were the Itawamba and Lee County Sheriff and Police Departments; the Itawamba-Lee Narcotics Unit; the board members of the Mississippi Bail Bond Association; and Reese Robinson, Chris Pannell, Charles Justice and Leon Hayes.

Edith Lancaster

GOLDEN – Edith E. Lancaster, 79, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at the Red Bay Hospital.

Services were held Sunday, May 17, at 2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay, Ala., with Bro. Jim Rutledge and Bro. Dean Warren officiating. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery.

Survivors include two sisters, Irene Letson of Golden and Olene Barksdale of Red Bay; three brothers, William Orrick (Chris), Douglas Orrick (Cindy) and Donnie Orrick (Dorothy) of Golden; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mildred Wiginton

HALEYVILLE, Ala. – Mildred Wiginton, 79, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at her residence.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 22, at Hamilton Funeral Home. Burial was in Bexar Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Wade Wiginton (Martha); six daughters, Gail McCarley (Kenneth), Lola Williams (Dean), Carolyn Davis (Gary), Jeanie Shirley (Danny), Jane Tidwell (Michael) and Denise Kivette; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Joe Greer

NEW ALBANY - Joseph Henry "Joe" Greer, 80, died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 22, at United Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. David Bishop officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.

Survivors include four daughters, Betty Ann Self of Enterprise, Rhonda Pearl Pannell (Mike) of Enterprise, Johnnie Faye Vanstory (fiance Robert Whaley) of Mantachie and Sherry O'Connell (James) of Endville; three sons Danny Joe Greer of Pinedale, Terry Wayne Greer (Shelia) of Keownville and Billy George Greer of Oxford; 23 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Ann Windham.

Mae Sue Pannell

TUPELO - Mae Sue Pannell died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 24, at the Springhill District Building in Tupelo with Rev. Billy D. Rainey officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Tupelo. N.L. Jones & Son Funeral Directors were in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include four daughters, Betty (Howard) Monroe of Saltillo, Dorothy (Ozzie) Penn of Cleveland, Ohio, Delois (Sylvester) Thomas of Tupelo and Bertha Pannell of Belden; two sons, Author (Eloise) Pannell of Dorsey and James Pannell; daughter-in-law, Ada Pannell of Belden; 33 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Newson of Chicago and Rehma Kemp of Red Hill; one brother, Curtis Lee of Chicago.

Michael Dees

FULTON – Michael Dees, 35, died Saturday, May 16, 2009. He was born June 13, 1973, in New Orleans, La. He was an employee of Tombigbee Tooling. He was an avid fisherman and gardener.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at Senter Funeral Home. Bro. Hoyt Moore and Bro. Harold Ozbirn officiated, and Dwayne Thornton delivered the eulogy. Burial was in Itawamba Memorial Garden.

Survivors include his wife, Stacey Elder Dees of Fulton; his parents, Thomas and Vickie Dees of Golden; three sisters, his twin, Michelle Cole (Carson), Jacquelyn Moore (Matt) and Jennifer Hayes (Marty), all of Fulton; two brothers, Heath Johnson (Hope) and Rance Johnson (Kerrie) of Fulton; his grandparents, Gola Earnest of Tupelo and Hubert Johnson of Fulton; his mother-in-law, Diane Elder of Fulton; his father-in-law, C.K. Patterson of Red Bay, Ala.; five nieces, three nephews and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lee Earnest and Millard and Delilia Dees, and his father-in-law, Roy Elder Sr.

Pallbearers were David Lefford, Jason Holiman, Bobby Ivy, Drew Gough, Gregory Dees and Darrell Gasaway.

Honorary pallbearers were Andy Holiman, Derek Johnson and the employees of Tombigbee Tooling.
