The IAHS Indians faced the Pontotoc Warriors last week in a key division game. The Warriors could remain undefeated in division with a win, and the Indians could remain in contention for the division title.

Dillon Mitchell took the hill for the Indians, but Pontotoc took a 1-0 on a RBI single in the top of the first.

The Indians answered in the bottom of the inning with back-to-back singles by Jared McGonagill and Mitchell. Trevor Wallace then stepped up and to the plate and ripped a double to right field, driving in two runs and giving the Indians a 2-1 lead.

Mitchell struck out three over the next two innings, and the Indian offense gave him some insurance runs in the bottom of the third.

Wallace hit a one out double to right, followed by a Bronson Smith walk. After a Maikhail Miller fielder's choice, the Indians had two runners on with two outs.

Tyler Thomas then stepped up and hit a double to center, plating two runs. Bubba Mendoza followed with a walk, and Colin Chatham drove Thomas in on a double to center.

When the inning ended, the Indians held a 6-1 lead over the Warriors.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Indians added more runs to their lead as Wallace hit a solo home run to left. Smith followed with a double in the left field gap that set up a Miller RBI bloop single to right.

Trailing 8-1, the Warriors led off the sixth inning with a double in the left field gap and plated a run on a wild pitch. Then Mitchell settled down and struck out the side.

The Indians picked up another run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Smith that scored McGonagill, who led off the inning with a double from third.

Leading 9-2, the Indians kept the Warriors from scoring in the top of the seventh, and Mitchell struck out a batter for the final out, giving him 9 k's on the night.

The 9-2 victory put the Indians in a three way tie with Pontotoc and Tishomingo County. The Indians also picked up another a 9-2 victory over Shannon Friday night.
