MYRTLE - Robert Clifton “Bob” Young, formerly of Tupelo, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany after a brief illness. He was born March 17, 1933, to the late Ed Clifton Young and Lila Chittom Young. He was a veteran serving in the Army during the Korean Conflict.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Chapel in Mantachie with Minister Keith Williams officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Itawamba County. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his aunt, Opal Garner Chittom; cousins, Fay DeVaughn Wood (Bill), Ann DeVaughn Moore (Nolan), Martha Kirksey Senter (Pat), Jean Chittom Smith (Bob), Janice Chittom McKinney (Robert), Larry Murphy Chittom (Marilyn) and Richard Archibald (Marsha), all of Tupelo and Charles Chittom (June) of Tulsa, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wilburn Young; a sister, Emie Young Walker (Alfred); and cousins, William Gary Chittom, John Mac Kirksey and Nell DeVaughn Blaylock.
Thomas Smith
AMORY - William Thomas Smith, 67, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at the Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory after an extended illness. He was born July 24, 1941, in Calhoun County to Cullen and Willie Mae Goforth Smith. He grew up in Bruce. He lived in Pittsboro, the Mississippi Delta and in Amory for five years. He married Dorothy Mae Evans. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the National Guard and Lakeside Baptist Church in Amory. He enjoyed talking to Dylan.
Graveside services were held at noon Friday, Jan. 23, at the Pittsboro Cemetery in Pittsboro with Bro. Michael Welch and Bro. Ray Carroll officiating. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Billy Smith (Pat) of Fulton and Eddie Smith (Ann) of Amory; three daughters, Katrina Smith of Helena, Ark., Tracy McCullar (Troy) of Amory and Kristina Christian (Shane) of Gattman; his fiancee, Sue Dullum of Hatley; two brothers, Cullen Smith Jr. of Alabama and Robert Smith (Shirley) of Clarksville, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ronald Smith; and one sister, Penny Massey.
Pallbearers were Jeremy Smith, Warren Christian, Ricky Self, Dylan Welch, Michael Welch and Marlin McCullar.
Ada Funderburk
EGGVILLE - Ada Lou Funderburk, 89, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at her residence after an extended illness. A native of Vernon, Ala., she was born June 27, 1919, to Oscar and Geronnie Clearman Elliott. Her life was spent caring for the family she loved. An avid gardener, she enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables, spending time outdoors, canning vegetables and cooking. She was a member of Cross Pointe Ministries.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Union Grove Church of God of Prophecy with Bro. Wayne Thorn and Bro. Edwin Pharr officiating. Burial was in Union Grove Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Hughes (Jim) of McKinney, Texas, Diane Thompson (Rev. David) of the Shiloh community and Sybil Thompson (Emory) of the Eggville community; one son, Dannie Funderburk (Diana) of Nashville, Tenn.; one sister, Grace Northam (B.R.) of Vernon, Ala.; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, James Funderburk; and three brothers and three sisters.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Kevin Funderburk, Jimmy Hughes, Jay Thompson, Bryan Thompson, Tracy Thompson and Anthony Thompson.

Tony Jenkins
HARRISBURG, Ill. - Tony Lee Jenkins, 46, a Red Bay, Ala., native, died Jan. 18, 2009, at Harrisburg Medical Center. Born July 4, 1962, the son of Bobby and Barbara Bradford Jenkins, he was a minister affiliated with Main Street Church of God in Carrier Mills, Ill.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, with Rev. J.E. Jackson officiating. Burial was in Belmont City Cemetery.
Survivors include his mother, Barbara Nichols (Wesley) of Hamilton, Ala.; his wife, Kathy Jenkins, Mt. Vernon, Ill.; daughters, Jessica LeAnn Middendorf (Terry) and Heather Dawn Bourland (Scott), all of McLeansboro, Ill.; a son, Anthony Bradford Jenkins of Harrisburg; brothers, Paul Jenkins (Tania) of Golden, Brian Jenkins (Shelly) of Ripley; a good friend, Terri Austin and her two children; and six grandchildren, Ashton, Braydon, Micah, Savanna, Mackensie and Kali.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Gena DeVall
MANTACHIE - Gena Faye Walton DeVall, 79, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born Jan. 1, 1930, to Charlie S. and Mollie Belle Raper Walton. She was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She worked at Blue Bell for 20 years. She enjoyed watching Unity Broadcasting.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Grady Davidson, Bro. Doug Wilson and Bro. Jerry Parker officiating. Burial was in Walton Cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Debbie Leslie (Steve) of Plant City, Fla., Donna Barnes (Vick) of Smithville and Traci Botts (Rian) of Mantachie; one sister, Margaret Thrasher of Marietta; seven grandchildren, Sgt. Matthew Neal, Lucian Sumerall (Harry), Joseph Barnes, Jaelyn Bott, Andrew Botts, Jeremy Leslie (Allison) and Tabatha Galindo (Mark); six great-grandchildren, Alyssa Sumerall, Andy Leslie, Clay Leslie, Casey Leslie, Isabella Galindo and Miguel Galindo; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee DeVall, on Aug. 8, 2005; five brothers, Noonan Walton, Windle Walton, Jessie Walton, Willie Walton and Howard Walton; two sisters, Lola Walton and Essie Works; and her parents.
Pallbearers were Rian Botts, Jeremy Leslie, Joseph Barnes, Phillip Walton, Chris Wilson and Harry Sumerall.
Honorary pallbearers were Steve Leslie and Vic Barnes.
Jason Brooks
SALTILLO - Jason Lamar Brooks, 31, died Jan. 17, 2009, after a sudden illness. A carpenter, he enjoyed hunting and taking care of his animals.
Services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ronnie Goodwin and Michael Brooks officiating. Burial was in Eggville Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Edge Brooks; two daughters, Alexyss Nicole Brooks and Sherika Edge of Saltillo; one son, Austin Jason Brooks of Saltillo; and a brother, Michael Brooks (Deborah) of Mantachie.
Pallbearers were Roy Edge, Eric Hoskin, Charlie Malone, Frankie Martin, Terry Hallmark and Johnny Griffin.
Kenneth Wooldridge Jr.
AMORY – Kenneth Wooldridge Jr., 75, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at his home after an extended illness. He was born April 30, 1933, in Shannon to the late Kenneth B. and Gladys Gray Wooldridge. He married Helen Raymark who later died in 2003. He lived in Kenosha, Wis. and San Diego, Calif., before retiring to the Amory area. He was a 1952 graduate of Becker School and he attended Moody’s Bible School. He was a master electrician and he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the River Bend Baptist Church and he enjoyed computer work, and television. He was a Mason.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Roy McHenry officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Mantachie. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one son, David Eugene Wooldridge of Mantachie; one daughter, Rebecca Ann Wooldridge Lamb of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, James Audie Wooldridge of Paris, Tenn.; one sister, Mary Evelyn Wooldridge Robison of West Point; two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Holly; and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife.
Pallbearers will be Michael Wooldridge, Daniel Wooldridge, Marshall Wooldridge, Wesley Wooldridge, James Robison and Eric Zapf.
Honorary pallbearers were Masons.

Walter Harlow
PONTOTOC - Walter Morris Harlow, 79, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born Dec. 7, 1929, in Pontotoc County. He married Charlotte Cannon on May 2, 1953. Raised in the Zion Community, he was a Carpenter and a member of Longview Baptist Church. He was a hard worker and did whatever he could do to help others. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at the Baldwin, Nowell & Clark Funeral Home with Bro. J.W. Owens officiating. Burial was in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. Baldwin, Nowell & Clark Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Harlow of Pontotoc; daughter, Cathy Mayer of Pontotoc; four sons, Dell Harlow (Sharon), Terry Harlow (Sandra), Phil Harlow (Kim) and Jim Harlow (Melody), all of Pontotoc; two sisters, Mavis Robbins of Pontotoc and Jean Denton (Wray) of Golden; one brother, Gaylon Harlow of Memphis, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Kyle Harlow, Chris Harlow, John Harlow, Erick Harlow, Stacey Harlow and Kevin Steele.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Annie Reed Harlow; a daughter, Jeanie Marie Harlow; and a sister, Hortense Sappington.
Dale Umfress
FULTON - James Dale Umfress, 76, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born Feb. 20,1932, in Fulton to the late Raymond B. and Lula Pearl Bowen Umfress. He was a public worker and a veteran of the United States Navy. He was also a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at the Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Scott Bryant and Bro. Hoyt Moore officiating. Burial was in the New Home Cemetery. Senter Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Gwyn Umfress of Fulton; two daughters, Lou Scott (Kenny) and Sue Perkins (Billy), both of Horn Lake; three granddaughters, Abby Wright (Jack), Jamie Scott and Mindy Scott, all of Horn Lake; and a special cousin, Elouise Graham.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Doyle Umfress.
Pallbearers were Leon Pannell, Will Webb, Jim Witt, Aaron Loden, Kerry Lee Peden and Bobby Ivey.
