Here in the tax collector's office we often get asked about our annual tax sale.

The most frequent question is "Can I come to the sale and buy some land or a house?" The answer is no.

What we have is a tax sale.

We do not sell property. Most who come to this sale are investors who come to purchase the delinquent taxes as an investment.

People who purchase these unpaid taxes are paid interest at the rate of 11/2 percent (one and one-half percent) per month that the taxes go unpaid.

If the property owner has not redeemed the tax deed within a three-year period, then the first year purchaser of the taxes may receive a tax deed from the chancery clerk's office. This very rarely happens.

Anyone who has questions regarding this may call our office at 862-4304.
